Question: How do others deal with difficult people in their project teams? What do you do when your project resources are juggling BAU as well, and when projects aren’t considered the priority job?

Summary of video:

  • It depends on the person. Play to their strengths. Have regular meetings, find out what is a priority, what can you do to help them be organised.
  • Are they difficult because they don’t do their work? Talk to their manager. Get commitment for certain tasks. Involve the manager in steering group or project board.
  • Spread out the work so there is less of it to do each week. Add contingency to the plan. Be realistic. Manage expectations.
  • Know when you are being given the run around, some people will always use BAU as an excuse and it masks their poor performance.
